Clothes + Herb Drying Rack
If you’ve visited our home, you’ve certainly seen this space-saving drying rack in use. In the wintertime it’s always full of clothes, full of bundled herbs in the summertime, and when it is empty it folds down neatly against the wall.
It all started when our last cheap plastic accordion-style clothes drying rack inevitably broke. Bradley studied a few old designs and drew up his own that was most space-efficient for our very small house. Then when it came time to begin designing offerings for Hark & Heed, we knew the drying rack had to be the first, even though it is rather difficult to make. The fifteen separate pieces require forging several unique shapes, chiseling, filing, riveting, and so much more.
The wood arms are milled from a red oak tree that fell by our house and are finished with tung oil. The metal components are forged and filed mild steel finished with pure Swedish boiled linseed oil. Each rivet is stamped in a unique sunburst die. This is truly an heirloom piece that your family will enjoy for generations to come.
The drying rack comes with two black oil-finished screws. For optimal wet-clothes-strength, be sure to install it into solid wood or a stud behind your drywall. We don’t recommend using hand-forged nails to install the drying rack. Please reach out with any installation questions!
Flat against the wall the drying rack is 42.5 inches. When upright it extends out 37.5 inches. Keep in mind, this is a handmade item and there will be variations among each finished piece.
