Tri-leaf Trivet

$164.00

This trivet was also inspired by early medieval Gothic era ironwork, specifically the hinges of the Notre Dame Cathedral, using some of the same ancient techniques. To reproduce each leaf exactly, an open die is created by forging the cold original leaf into a hot piece of steel. The newly formed mold is then cooled, hardened, and ready to receive new hot steel on the powerhammer. Once the three leaves are separately forged they are cluster welded together. The new cluster of leaves are then scarfed welded to a scarfed long bar of steel. Then an open die on the powerhammer is used to create the ribbing on the long bar. Finally, it is bent around a jig into its final shape.

The hook is forged from mild steel and finished with beeswax and linseed oil.

The trivet measures 9.5 inches in diameter and extends 0.5 inches from the counter surface. Keep in mind, this is a handmade item and there will be variations among each finished piece.
